If you are an enthusiastic crafter or even if you run a small crafting business, you are probably familiar with Cricut and their products.
Over the years, Cricut have become a leading company for cutting machines and are constantly building on their older models to keep up with technological advancements. This means their machines are some of the best and most efficient available, so it comes at no surprise that many crafters are always on the lookout for a new Cricut model.
Because of this, there are always rumors running around about new Cricut models and announcements, and it is so easy to be misinformed.
To answer your questions about the latest Cricut cutting machine, and if there is a new one on the horizon, then keep on reading down below!
What Is Cricut?
Cricut is a company that creates electronic cutting machines.
Their cutting machines (sometimes called die-cutter machines or craft plotters) can be used for a range of different things, including cutting out shapes to help you make a range of beautiful crafts and products. These cutting machines are incredibly handy to a lot of crafters out there, whether you craft for a living or just as a hobby.
This is because Cricut machines can cut all sorts of designs and patterns out of all different kinds of materials including paper, vinyl, and card stock. Some Cricut machine models can even cut through far tougher materials too like leather and wood.
This saves crafters a lot of time and effort cutting through sheets and sheets of material, meaning that their productivity goes up, and they can spend more time designing and being creative rather than wasting so much energy on the tedious parts of crafting.

Currently, there are three types of Cricut machines available: the Cricut Explore, the Cricut Joy, and the Cricut Maker. Both are useful and versatile machines, although the Maker models are able to cut through more materials and have more features than the Explore range for a higher price.
Cricut have stuck with these three types of machines for years, and are constantly updating them and releasing new models that have been improved upon. However, that does not mean the company is not up for trying something new – they also make heat presses and accessories, but are they looking to bring out a new type of machine any time soon?
Are Cricut Bringing Out A New Machine Soon?
As far as we can tell, Cricut is not announcing any new machines soon.
Cricut tends to update their current range of machines rather than announce a whole new range instead, but they have not made any official announcements concerning a new range of cutting machines.
In fact, they just released the newest generations of the Cricut Maker and the Cricut Explore in May 2021, so it will be a while yet until they release another new generation for Cricut machines with further improvements. It will be a while before their latest model falls behind and becomes out of date.
Because of this, we are not expecting Cricut to announce any new machines soon.
What Is The Latest Cricut Machine?
The latest Cricut machines to have come out are the Cricut Explore 3 and the Cricut Maker 3.
These are both updated and improved versions of the classic Cricut Explore and Cricut Maker respectively, building on the last generation of Cricut cutting machines.
Both machines now cut up to twice as fast as their previous models, and the Cricut Maker 3 is now able to cut Cricut Smart Materials without a mat. Before, crafters were limited when using smart materials because they had to include a mat to help the process, meaning that they could only cut pieces up to a certain size depending on the size of their mat.
Now, crafters can load materials like smart Vinyl, Smart Iron-On, and Smart Paper Sticker Cardstock straight into the Cricut Maker 3 without mat, no longer limiting crafters on what size pieces they could cut.
These changes and updates to the Cricut’s cutting machines mean that crafters can now be even more productive when it comes to cutting out their bits and pieces. Owners of the Cricut Maker 3 can also now be more creative with Smart Materials, giving them more freedom over what they choose to craft.
What Is The Difference Between A Cricut Maker and A Cricut Explore?
The Cricut Explore is an ideal cutting machine for hobby crafters who don’t want to spend a lot of money on a cutting machine, and use a more limited range of materials. It uses up to 6 tools, such as a fine point blade and pens and markers, to help cut through over 100 different types of lightweight materials.
The Cricut Maker range is for more advanced crafters who use tougher materials and need stronger tools to do so. It uses up to 13 tools, including knife and rotary blades, so it has a cut force ten times as strong as the Explore range’s.
This means that the Cricut maker is capable of cutting through over 300 types of materials including far studier materials like balsa wood, Smart Materials, and leather.
The downside is that the Cricut Maker range tends to be heavier than the Cricut Explore range due to it using more tools, and so it is generally more expensive.
Conclusion
So there is the answer – Cricut has not announced or even hinted at any new upcoming cutting machines just yet.
We also do not expect any because Cricut only just released their newest generation versions of the Cricut Explore and the Cricut Maker in May 2021. So, if you were thinking of holding out until the next generation to get an even more powerful electronic cutting machine from Cricut, you may end up waiting a while.
This is because Cricut tends to update their cutting machines every couple of years, and seeing as they just released the newest generation, we expect the Cricut Maker 4 and Cricut Explore 4 will not be released until a few more years have passed.
So, if you were thinking of getting a Cricut cutting machine, now is the best time to do so!
